Olkalou Potato Storage Facility Nears Operational Readiness
A collaborative meeting was held recently at the Olkalou Potato Cold Storage facility, attended by representatives from the MSEA Nyandarua regional office, the Nyandarua Fresh Produce Farmers Union, and a team from Cooperative Bank HQ. The purpose of the gathering was to evaluate the readiness of the facility for the upcoming storage operations for local potato farmers.
Mr. Eric Muleri, the Head of the Consortium, announced plans to assist the Union by providing temporary office space and appointing a dedicated manager to facilitate operations. This support is seen as a crucial step in enhancing the efficiency and productivity of potato storage in the region.
Under the leadership of Director General and CEO Henry Rithaa, MSEA has emphasized the importance of improving agricultural infrastructure to benefit local farmers. The operationalization of the Olkalou facility is expected to significantly boost the storage capacity for potatoes, helping to reduce post-harvest losses and ensure a steady supply to markets.
As the facility prepares for its official opening, stakeholders remain optimistic about the positive impact it will have on the local agricultural economy, empowering farmers and supporting sustainable practices in potato production.
