Oscar Sudi Exposes Corruption in Government Procurement Process, Vows to Name Names
In a scathing attack on government corruption, Kapseret Member of Parliament, Oscar Sudi, has exposed a widespread racket within the country’s public procurement system. Sudi revealed that a network of high-ranking government officers, especially heads of procurement in ministries and parastatals, have been using their positions to channel multimillion-shilling government tenders to companies owned or controlled by themselves and their proxies.
Speaking to the press on Thursday, Sudi outlined how these government officials have been systematically locking out legitimate, qualified Kenyan businessmen from the tendering process, favoring companies with no capacity to deliver. He called the actions a clear betrayal of public trust and an abuse of taxpayer money.
“These government officers have turned our ministries and parastatals into personal business empires. They are exploiting their positions to funnel lucrative tenders to companies linked to them, while legitimate Kenyan entrepreneurs—qualified and ready to deliver—are left out in the cold,” Sudi said.
The MP accused these officials of manipulating tendering procedures, using their influence to ensure that bids from their preferred companies were prioritized, often through proxy businesses that fronted as independent entities. Sudi claimed that many of these tender winners are incapable of fulfilling the contracts but are awarded tenders nonetheless, leading to the mismanagement of public resources.
“It is time to expose these corrupt individuals who are holding our government to ransom. The Kenyan people deserve better. They deserve a procurement system that is fair, transparent, and accountable,” Sudi added.
Sudi, who has long been an outspoken critic of government corruption, promised to name and shame the individuals involved in the fraudulent schemes. He revealed that he has already compiled a list of high-profile officials, and in the coming days, he will be releasing the names of those implicated in the scandal.
The revelations have raised alarm within the government, with critics calling for immediate investigations into the claims. The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have been urged to step in and hold the culprits accountable.
Sudi also called for urgent reforms to the public procurement system, citing the need for stricter oversight and greater transparency to ensure that government contracts benefit the public, not just a few well-connected individuals.
“We cannot continue allowing these corrupt individuals to take advantage of the system. We need to bring integrity back to our procurement process. It’s time for action, not just words,” he said.
The public outcry over the alleged corruption has also sparked a wider conversation about the state of governance in Kenya, with many expressing frustration over the persistent mismanagement of public funds. Sudi’s revelations are expected to fuel further scrutiny of government procurement practices, with calls for reform growing louder by the day.
As the scandal unfolds, all eyes will be on how the government responds to these explosive claims—and whether the culprits are finally brought to justice.
