Over 356 Suspects Arrested, 20,000 Litres of Kangara Netted in Soy Sub-county
Over 356 people involved in the sale and brewing of illegal liquor in Soy Sub-county have been arrested and charged in the Court of Law.
Speaking to the press in Soy –SubCounty police Commander Henry Zuma said the fight against illegal alcohol will go on until sanity prevails.
“From January to date we have arrested 356 suspects involved in the sale and brewing of illegal alcohol, we took them to court and were fined in their different counts,” said Zuma.
He said this was through a concerted effort between the National police Service, County Department of Alcohol among others.
“20,000 litres of Kangara, 5,121 litres of Changaa were netted and 150 litres of busaa was destroyed,” said the Turbo Sub-county Police Commander.
He sounded a warning to brewers who are continuing with the illegal business to seize and start other meaningful and legal businesses or face the full force of the law.
“We have lost our youths in illicit brewing in that you can look at a youth and think that they are unwell but they are not, we plead with Soy Sub-County and Kamukunji people at large to stop this illegal brewing or we come for your neck,” Zuma added.
Zuma said that the brews are too strong and affect one’s health when consumed.
Koiya Arap Maiyo Director of Alcoholic Drinks and Licensing Board Uasin Gishu County said they will not relent until the issue of illicit brewing is a thing of the past.
“As a County government led by Governor Jonathan Bii we will not leave any stone unturned until this menace that is killing the future of our children is fought once and for all. We will not relent until the day when illegal alcohol will be a thing of the past,” said Maiyo.
He says in March alone they managed to net Kangara 10,000 litres of Kangara, 2200 litres Changaa, and 15 suspects arrested were taken to court and charged with different counts.
