Over 40% of women in Kenya have experienced physical or intimate violence
Over 40% of women in Kenya have experienced physical or intimate violence in their lifetime. The 16 days of activism against gender-based violence began on November 25th and will run until December 10th to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls.
This year’s slogan, #NoExcuse, demands that each and every one of us acknowledges that we have the power to protect and take action for the women we know.
So, how can we do this?
– Act as a safe space for the women and girls in our life.
– Never become the perpetrator of abuse against women and girls.
– Help girls stay in school.
– Financially empower the women in our life.
– Stand up for the women and girls who are currently being abused.
In my capacity as Mwea Member of Parliament, I stand to support women in their financial journeys through the Uwezo Fund and continually ensure young girls access bursaries, and I am present to mentor them.
Together, let’s all commit to doing our part in the fight against gender-based violence.
