Partial Drop in Fuel Prices Uncalled For
Netizens in the transport sector in Eldoret town, Uasin Gishu County have scolded the government’s partial drop in the fuel prices.
The bodaboda operators noted that the partial drop in the fuel prices especially petrol by Ksh0.66 is expected to rise upon the reading of the 2023/2024 financial year budget.
“Let’s just say that it is just a slight price decrease but obvious after reading of the budget, the fuel prices will rise again in accordance to the taxation bill,” stated the bodaboda operator.
His sentiments have been echoed by a taxi driver who has said that the slight drop in fuel is impactless in their sector since they are still making losses because of the current prices.
“This business is running on losses since there are no clients and the constant high fuel prices have resulted in us surviving in debts to the extent of making a loss of Ksh1000 per day,” stated the driver.
According to these transport service operators, the commuter industry is still expected to continue facing income hurdles because of the strained working atmosphere attributed to high fuel prices.
These mixed reactions have come up a few hours after the government announced the new fuel prices with petrol now costing ksh.182.04, diesel at ksh.167.23, and kerosene at ksh.161.48.
The citizens are expecting new prices upon the reading of the national budget to be read by the Minister of Finance, Njuguna Ndung’u.
