People living with disability Condemn Governor Bii’s Government For Neglecting Them
People living with disabilities Uasin Gishu have expressed their concern for what they term ‘government’s negligence
Speaking during Mashujaa day celebrations in Uasin Gishu Regina Chumba, a representative for persons living with disabilities, said there is a need for the government to look into the issues affecting the disabled.
“It sad that even as I am talking we have no representative in the County Assembly where our position was given to an abled person, does it mean that we are lesser Kenyans and we deserve nothing,” said Regina Chumba.
“We cannot feel the positive impact of the government if our rights are violated. The constitution is clear that people living with disabilities should be allocated at least 5% job opportunity in government which has not been the case. We, therefore, call upon the county government of Uasin Gishu to shed light on this matter.” Said Regina.
She further said that heroes are celebrated for having done heroic actions especially by meeting the needs of the less privileged in society.
“When we heard of your succession as the Governor of Uasin Gishu county, Honorable Jonathan Bii, we were glad, however, we couldn’t clap nor jump happily for being physically impaired. Bwana Governor we need the services like any other person that is not physically impaired. All leaders should be mainstreamed inclusively so that our issues are addressed without fear” Regina emphasized.
She noted that people living with disability in the County voted for governor Bii having faith that they will be included in his government thye say he has done the contrary.
In attendance were Governor Jonathan Chellilim Bii, Women Representative Gladys Boss Sholei, County Commissioners among other leaders.
