Photos: Olympic Athlete Rebecca Cheptegei’s Body Moved for Burial After Tragic Death
The body of Olympic athlete Rebecca Cheptegei has been removed from Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital and is en route to Uganda for burial.
The 33-year-old, renowned for her athletic prowess, tragically passed away after a former boyfriend doused her in petrol and set her on fire. Cheptegei suffered severe burns over 80 percent of her body.
Family members and athletes were given the opportunity to view Cheptegei’s body before its departure. Her death has prompted an outpouring of grief and condemnation.
In response to the tragedy, the End Femicide Movement organized a peaceful demonstration in Eldoret. Protesters gathered to condemn the heinous act and call for greater action against gender-based violence.
The tragic loss of Cheptegei has shocked both the local and international communities, highlighting the urgent need for increased awareness and prevention efforts to combat violence against women.
