Pioneer Residents Decry Shortage of Dustbins
A section of Pioneer residents has decried a shortage of dustbins in the Estate.
They say there is a lot of garbage piling up over the residence and along the pavements, a situation that they have termed to be a threat to their health.
The residents accused the County Government of Uasin Gishu of what they regarded as negligence and absconded its mandate of collecting garbage.
Nelson Kipkemei, a tenant said the lack of disposal pits has greatly contributed to this disaster which might lead to a breakout of diseases.
“The plots surrounding this area do not have designated places to dispose-off their waste and garbage and this in turn leaves them with no option than to discard the garbage onto the roads around,” stated Kipkemei.
He noted with the ongoing rains, if the spillage of garbage all over the areas of residence is not acted upon by the relevant authorities, this may result in a catastrophic break out of diseases.
“If the garbage is not removed from this place and the downpour falls, this will automatically lead to the eruption of diseases such as Cholera and other diseases linked to a dirty environment,” said Kipkemei.
The outcry from this region which is on the outskirts of Eldoret town comes up while there are anticipations and measures being put into place towards the conferment of Eldoret town to City status.
Eldoret Water and Sewerage Services(ELDOWAS) Managing Director, Peter Biwott said that the Department of Health should enhance its program to educate citizens on maintaining high levels of hygiene, which involves control of garbage.
