Police and County Askaris Conduct Raid on Illegal Alcohol in Kingongo,2 Suspects Arrested
National Police and Uasin Gishu County enforcement officer conducted a raid on illegal alcohol sellers and transporters in Kingongo, Huruma Ward, Turbo Constituency.
Speaking during the raid Deputy OCPD Turbo Subcounty Christopher Wesonga thye will not allow anyone to sell or transport illegal liquor and all those who will be found will face the full force of the law.
“We have decided as a multi-agency between the Kenya Police and County government enforcement officers to ensure that work hand in hand to ensure that this vice of illegal alcohol is not done away with completely but reduced to a level we can manage it. The environment in which the illegal brew is prepared is wanting and if allowed to continue we will lose lives,” said Wesonga.
They said thye will continue with the raise until the vice is a thing of the past.
“We have two suspects in custody a male and a female but the owner of this place Pamela Anyango alias Nyalego managed to escape. She is among the notorious brewers and transporters and we will not relent until we arrest her,” he said.
The Turbo Sub-county Deputy Commander said during the raid they managed to net 140 litres of Changaa , thousands of litres of Busaa, Contraband’s of cigarettes which were supposed to be exported, and ammonia among others.
Koiya Arap Maiyo Director of Alcoholic Drinks and Licensing Board Uasin Gishu County said as a county they have declared war on those involved in this illegal business.
“We are working under instructions from President William Ruto and our able governor Jonathan Bii who have directed us to deal with illegal liquor. We will not relent until the day when illegal alcohol will be a thing of the past.
He noted in March alone they managed to net Kangara 10,000 litres of Kangara, 2200 litres Changaa and 15 suspects arrested were taken to court and charged with different counts.
He further warned bars that are operating without licenses that their days are numbered.
“It is sad that we have only licensed 80 percent of bars in the County and 20 percent are operating illegally, I am giving you a stern warning it is either you get a license or we close your business,” he said.
