Presidential Aspirants Urged to Accept August Polls Results
Presidential aspirants in the forthcoming elections have been urged to accept the outcome of the August polls.
Speaking to the press in Eldoret town, Rev Paul Mburu Christian Outreach ministries Worldwide Langata said leaders rejecting results is the cause of violence.
“As church leaders we are calling on deputy president William Ruto and the opposition leader Raila Odinga that whoever will win or lose should accept the results since in most cases violence is caused when a presidential candidate refuses to accept the announced results,” said Rev. Mburu said.
“The presidential candidates should maintain peace whatever the results will favour or be against their wish since we don’t have any spare country.
He also called on politicians to maintain peace, before, during, and after the 2022 general elections.
Rev Mburu observed that by accommodating divergent opinions from political leaders who will be campaigning for various elective positions, Kenyans will be in a position to make informed decisions.
“The county has experienced violence we therefore need to be extra cautious and weed out anything that might stir animosity amongst people and endeavor to jealously guard our peace,” she said. The political differences exhibited by politicians during the campaign period should not be taken personal and Kenyans ought to live in peace at all times,” he added.
He called on citizens not to praise the act of lawlessness, to be tolerant during this period of political campaigns, and should avoid conflicts.
“Our political and ideological differences should not bring divisions, conflicts, and violence but instead help us bring constructive debates that will help us know how we can elect proper leadership for our good governance,” he said.
He called on voters to shun away leaders who intend to bribe them for their favor, transport them, those who are hate speech, inciters, and many others like them.
