PS Dr Muoria Graces Eldoret National Polytechnic’s 13th Annual International Conference

The Principal Secretary of the State Department for Vocational and Technical Training, Dr. Esther Thaara Muoria, was warmly received today at The Eldoret National Polytechnic by Chief Principal, Dr. Charles Koech, as the institution kicked off its 13th Annual International Conference.

The two-day event, themed *“Competencies in Applied Research, Science & Innovation for Sustainable Development”*, has drawn experts, researchers, and key stakeholders from various sectors to discuss the critical role of research and innovation in advancing sustainable development goals. The conference will explore cutting-edge approaches and solutions in applied research, with a focus on addressing global challenges through science and technology.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Muoria emphasized the importance of linking vocational education and research to the achievement of sustainable development goals (SDGs). “The future of our country depends on how well we integrate research, innovation, and technical skills in every sector of our economy. TVET institutions are at the heart of this transformation,” she remarked.

The Chief Principal, Dr. Charles Koech, echoed her sentiments, highlighting the institution’s commitment to fostering a research-driven culture. “This conference is a testament to our dedication to producing graduates who are not only skilled but also innovative and equipped to tackle real-world challenges,” Dr. Koech said.

In a symbolic gesture marking the opening of the conference, Dr. Muoria, alongside Dr. Koech and other dignitaries, led a tree-planting ceremony within the institution. The exercise underscores the importance of environmental conservation and sustainable practices, aligning with the core theme of the conference.

The conference will continue tomorrow, featuring presentations from industry leaders, panel discussions, and exhibitions showcasing innovative projects developed by students and faculty. Attendees are expected to engage in thought-provoking dialogues on how research and applied sciences can contribute to Kenya’s economic and social development.
