Raila’s Call for National Dialogue Receives Support from Busia ODM Leaders
In a recent display of unity within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Busia Governor Paul Otuoma and other ODM leaders have voiced their strong support for Raila Odinga’s call for a government of national unity and dialogue amid the ongoing national crises.
Governor Otuoma praised Odinga for his advocacy of a broad-based government as a means to address the country’s current unrest. Otuoma emphasized the importance of national unity and stressed that the country’s interests should take precedence over personal or political gains.
“You cannot be a top diplomat in Africa when your own country is burning; you must stabilize your country first,” said Otuoma, highlighting Odinga’s dual role as a leader at home and on the continental stage. He underscored that meaningful dialogue is essential for achieving long-term solutions to the nation’s problems.
Otuoma’s remarks mark a significant alignment with Odinga’s position, which contrasts with the stance of some Azimio coalition leaders advocating for President William Ruto’s removal from office. The governor firmly rejected the notion of surrendering Kenya’s future to “unknown entities,” reinforcing the idea that a stable government must be preserved.
“We cannot hand over the country to unknown entities. We must maintain a stable government for the future of Kenya,” Otuoma declared.
Support for Odinga’s dialogue initiative also came from ODM’s Matayos leadership. Linus Mulofu, the ODM chairman in Matayos, echoed Otuoma’s sentiments, asserting that dialogue is crucial for the nation’s stability and progress.
“We need dialogue for the sake of future generations. If we let the military take over, we risk losing everything we have achieved since Independence,” Mulofu warned.
The youth leadership in Matayos, represented by ODM’s Majalo Frankline, also backed the call for a government of national unity. Frankline emphasized that Odinga’s push for dialogue reflects a deep understanding of the country’s unstable situation and expressed full support for the ODM leader’s efforts.
“As ODM members in Matayos, we fully support Raila’s call for dialogue because it is a necessary step towards stabilizing the nation,” Frankline said.
Odinga’s upcoming visit to Addis Ababa has intensified the debate about the best path forward for Kenya, and the recent endorsements from Busia ODM figures signal a significant moment in the ongoing dialogue about the country’s future.
