Road Safety Rules Can Help to Reduce Road Accident
By Engineer Ingaiza Annette M
In today’s developed world, road accidents happen daily at a very high rate. Worldwide, road infrastructure has been prioritized to enable the easy movement of goods and services.
Even in rural areas, the road infrastructure has been categorized as necessary since more edible products are sourced there; thus, fast mobility for those perishable products is being taken care of by good infrastructure.
Furthermore, the essence of fast driving has been growing as drivers tend to appreciate good roads by driving faster to their destinations. Fast driving has not been considered satisfactory, especially on vehicles ferrying passengers from one place to another.
This is because it may end up causing a horrible fatality accident.
Although technological advancements in the vehicle industry have thankfully brought down the mortality rates, nonetheless, there are a lot of potential hazards that are present on the road. Thus, road safety is essential to safeguard everyone.
Road safety is one of the mitigation processes aimed at reducing the likelihood or the risks of a person using the road corridor from getting involved in a collision or any incident that might cause serious injuries, property damage, or death. It is also vital to safeguard the well-being of everyone, including humans and other living beings.
For instance, when it is raining, or there is heavy fog, the driver’s visibility will automatically be vulnerable. As a result, vehicles will tend to move slowly, thus causing traffic. Similarly, there are other factors like rain that lead to hydroplaning.
In this phenomenon, vehicles traveling at high speeds will start to slide uncontrollably as the tires of the car push off the ground through a thin film of water on the road or knock off the slow-driving vehicles, thus causing hazards.
However, road safety rules can help us easily avoid these dangerous situations. Road users will remain safe when they follow road safety rules scrupulously and maintain their vehicles well.
Most importantly, driving within the prescribed speed limit is vital. One must not drink and drive; a driver is not supposed to use their mobile phone when driving a vehicle. Road safety is of utmost importance to ensure everyone remains safe and healthy.
Elementary Rules of Road Safety
There are a lot of general and elementary rules that every road user must follow. The first and foremost rule is that every road user should know how to use the signals rigorously and pay attention to them.
Since the road agencies (KeNHA, KURA, and KeRRA) ensure that all the road furniture, such as road markings, road signages, and guardrails, are kept in good shape, it is essential for those who are walking, especially pedestrians, to use the sidewalks and pedestrian crossings. It is also necessary to be aware of all the rules and laws of the state and abide by them.
National Transport Safety Authority (NTSA) has a platform where all drivers must have approved / valid driving licenses before getting on the road.
Road safety sensitization is vital to ensure the safety of the public. Making the general public aware of the importance of road safety can help reduce the rate of accidents and road mishaps daily. Seminars and educating people can help guide and make them aware of the consequences.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the summon of road rules should be everyone’s motto. Do not drink and drive, do not drive at excessive speed, and try to enhance the general awareness of road safety so that risks of traffic accidents can be reduced. To eliminate potential hazards, one must regularly check the vehicle and its maintenance parts.
