The Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) recently paid a courtesy visit to a county for a comprehensive engagement with key technical officers in human resources, finance/accounts, and payroll. The visit, which aimed to assess the county’s wage bill management, focused on ensuring compliance with the SRC’s guidelines and regulations.

During the visit, County Executive Committee Member of Finance, Micah Rogony, extended a warm welcome to the SRC team and emphasized the county’s commitment to full cooperation. He highlighted the importance of adhering to the provisions of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission Act of 2011, underscoring the need for continuous monitoring and evaluation of public sector wages to promote transparency and fiscal responsibility.

The SRC team, which included Economic Advisors Philip Melly and Directors Nathan Koech (Human Resource) and Josephat Rotich (Training), reviewed data submitted through the Automated Wage Bill Monitoring System. This system is designed to track and manage the wage bill across public institutions, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in public expenditure.

The primary objective of the visit was to assess the county’s adherence to SRC’s directives, circulars, and previous decisions on wage bill management. By closely monitoring these practices, the SRC aims to foster consistency in the way public funds are utilized, ensuring that resources are allocated responsibly and sustainably.

The engagement marks a significant step towards upholding accountability in the management of public resources. Both the county leadership and the SRC expressed their shared commitment to maintaining a sustainable and manageable wage bill, contributing to the broader goal of efficient public service delivery and fiscal discipline.
