Senate Committee Holds a Meeting on Isiolo Water Company’s Financial Statement
Today, the Senate Committee on County Public Investments and Special Funds (CPISFC), led by Senator Godfrey Osotsi, convened a meeting with the Governor of Isiolo County, Abdi Guyo. The urgent matter on the agenda was an in-depth discussion on the Auditor-General’s Reports concerning the financial statements of the Isiolo Water and Sewerage Company Limited for the Financial Years 2018/19, 2019/20, and 2020/21.
The Committee unanimously expressed concern over the responses provided by the water company, deeming them inadequate and inadmissible. This conclusion was drawn following substantial advisory from the Office of the Auditor-General, which deemed the company’s previous responses unacceptable.
In a firm directive to the Governor of Isiolo County, the Committee mandated the prompt submission of detailed responses regarding the audit issues highlighted in the reports under examination. The need for these enhanced submissions was underscored by Senator Osotsi’s direct address to the Governor: “Ensure close collaboration with the Office of the Auditor-General. We anticipate a comprehensive response when we reconvene next year to consider the 2021/2022 report alongside the current ones.”
Moreover, the Committee deemed it necessary to reschedule the meeting with the County Executive of Isiolo to rigorously scrutinize the aforementioned reports. Additionally, the Committee stressed the need for the water company’s management to actively engage with the Office of the Auditor-General. This engagement is expected to culminate in a mutual agreement on the expectations directed towards the water company, fortifying accountability and ensuring compliance with financial and operational standards.
In attendance alongside Senator Osotsi were Senator Eddy Oketch, Senator Tabitha Mutinda, Senator Fatuma Dullo and Senator Mohamed Chute, although not official members of the Committee, contributing their significant insights as friends of the Committee.
