In a poignant address during a press briefing at a peace meeting in Uasin Gishu County on Monday, Senator Jackson Mandago of Uasin Gishu County urged Members of Parliament (MPs) to voluntarily resign if their constituents feel dissatisfied with their performance. Emphasizing accountability, Senator Mandago stated, “If your conscience tells you that probably your performance has not been good enough and you also feel it is not good enough, then you can always quit the stage and there is nothing wrong.”

The senator’s remarks came amidst ongoing protests and concerns over governance in the region. He condemned the reported involvement of paid agitators disrupting peaceful demonstrations, citing recent incidents in Eldoret where armed youths allegedly instigated unrest.

“It is our constitutional right to protest; let us not allow others to take advantage and cause violence, which undermines the original purpose,” Senator Mandago asserted, urging for peaceful expression of grievances without external disruptions.

Recognizing Uasin Gishu County as a bastion of peace, Senator Mandago encouraged Kenyans, particularly the elderly, to embrace technology for virtual engagements, citing platforms like “X space” that facilitate communication and coordination during nationwide protests.

The press briefing underscored the senator’s commitment to maintaining peace and fostering civic responsibility among constituents. His call for MPs to heed public sentiment reflects a broader push for transparency and accountability in governance.
