Several feared dead after bus ferrying school staff from colleague’s burial crashes
Several people are feared dead following a Saturday evening crash in Taita Taveta County involving a school bus ferrying teachers to a funeral.
The school bus belonged to Memon Academy .
Former Mombasa governor aspirant Suleiman Shahbal has mourned the death of teachers traveling to attend a funeral.
Through his official Facebook page Shabal prayed for those who had lost their loved ones.
He wrote “I’m saddened by the reports of an accident involving the Memon Academy bus which was carrying teachers who were traveling to attend a funeral.The accident which happened in Taita Taveta County is reported to have led to the loss of some of the teachers who were on the bus,”
He prayed for the deceased, the injured, and the school management.
“May Allah (SWT) rest the departed souls in eternal peace,” he added.
The teachers were travelling back to Mombasa from Wundanyi after burying their collague.
A statement by Nasserpuria Memon Jamat and Memon Education Board confirmed the accident had ‘claimed the lives of some of the teachers’, leaving others severely injured.
“We wish to convey to the bereaved families, the school fraternity and the entire community heartfelt sympathies and condolences. This is not only a loss to the school but to the entire community and nation. A teacher’s promise and potential can never be measured. This is an immense loss for generations to come,” read the statement.
“Whilst this is a very unfortunate and heartbreaking incident to befall us, it is during such difficult and trying times that we need to show our unwavering support toward each other. May we ask the entire school fraternity and all members of the Jamat to join us in praying for the families of the victims, relatives and friends for God to grant them peace, solace and comfort,” the statement adds.
