Sistema Bio, in partnership with SNV, has launched the Regenerative Agricultural Practices for improved Livelihoods and Markets (REALM S) training program in Uasin Gishu.

Speaking during the launch Adams Amenya, the National Manager of Sistema bio said the program is set to benefit 10,000 smallholder farmers in the region.

“The program will work with small hold farmers and their communities, and with relevant stakeholders, to co-create the necessary enabling environment for the application of regenerative agriculture,” said Amenya while speaking to the press.

He noted that the program will primarily focus on dairy farmers as livestock is an important input in the smallholder commercial value chain
as thye provide a source of manure for crop production and biogas.
The National Manager of Sistema bio said with the training on regenerative farming, the overall resource use efficiency of small farms is expected to increase as crops and livestock enterprises are combined in small farms.

“The training program will also contribute to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Sustainable Development Goals which are urgent calls for action by all countries-Zero hunger in global partnership,” he said.

“Sistema is aligned with the goals of hunger-free Africa and the recently announced Renegrative Agricultural Practices for Improved Livelihoods and Markets(REALMS) training program. With the rapid rise in population numbers in Kenya, there is a need for farmers in Kenya to adopt smart Agriculture that will guarantee a sustainable increase in the yield,” he said.

He said Sistema bio and SNV’s program will provide a critical regenerative farming education to smallholder farmers to achieve zero hunger
by 2030.

“Sistema. Bio provides access to innovative biodigester technology, training, and financing for farmers to address the challenges of poverty, food, security, and climate change,” he added.

He says the firm’s technology allows farmers in Kenya to efficiently convert their waste into renewable energy and biofertilizer. Sistema Bio has enabled over 7000 farmers in Kenya to efficiently convert their waste into renewable energy and biofertilizer through their patented technology.

In Kenya, several smallholder farmers apply circular and regenerative farming practices such as the application of low quantities of homemade compost/animal manure and biological pest control.

However, the majority of smallholder farmers have yet to be introduced to biological pest control.
“To help realize this, the REALMS project will work with smallholders and their communities, support local service providers(SMWE’s and with relevant stakeholders, co-create the necessary enabling environment for the application of regenerative agriculture,” Says Judith Libasia, Business Development and Extension Advisor, SNV.
