Uasin Gishu County Assembly speaker CPA Philip Muigei has urged Kenyans to plant/grow trees during this rainy season.

He says this will help to improve the forest cover and achieve the target by President William Ruto to plant over 15 billion trees.

He spoke after leading hundreds of dignitaries in the planting/growing of over 3,000 trees at the Kapseret Forest in Kapseret Sub County, Uasin Gishu.

“I Call upon all Kenyans from all divide to hid at President William Ruto’s call of planting trees to at least plant trees during this rainy season, this is the only way of mitigating climate change and increasing the forest cover,” he said.

Under the Kipng’etich Muigei Environmental Conservation program, a brainchild of Hon. CPA Philip K. Muigei, an environmental enthusiast and the current Speaker to the County Assembly of Uasin Gishu, the conservation efforts have a particular emphasis on schools and the communities around them.

Speaker Muigei noted that the program has among its components, issues that address environmental awareness, and tree growth with particular emphasis on indigenous trees.

“We will not only grow the trees but support schools and churches to fence off their lands in order to protect trees from animals-this will ensure their survival,” the Uasin Gishu County Assembly speaker said.

The Kipng’etich Muigei Environmental Conservation program is aimed at growing over 3,500 trees at the expansive Kapseret Forest Reserve in line with President Dr. William Ruto’s directive to grow 5 billion new trees as part of the government’s climate change mitigation agenda.

“Under the theme “Each one, Plant one” the program aims to Uplift the quality of life through active planting, proper maintenance, and preservation of indigenous trees. The program also aims at increasing forest cover using community support while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and protecting groundwater supplies,” he said.

Present at the Event was Vincent Kemboi The Baringo County assembly Speaker who implored Kenyans to venture into commercial tree planting to make money while increasing the country’s forest cover.
