Special Funds Account Committee Moves to Take Action Against Misuse of Public Funds
The National Assembly – Special Funds Account Committee, led by Hon. Fatuma Zainab (Migori), is currently developing comprehensive reports on various investigations it has been conducting.
The Committee is addressing audit queries related to Government entities including the Kenya Wildlife Service – Road Maintenance Levy Fund, Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA), Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA), and Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KERRA).
The audit queries under review encompass a wide range of issues such as financial misappropriation, inefficient project management, poor management decisions, and violation of laws and regulations in areas such as procurement violations.
This move by the lawmakers is geared towards ensuring accountability and transparency in public fund utilization. It is also intended to enforce recommendations that hold accounting officers accountable and initiate necessary changes to prevent further misappropriation of funds.
In her opening remarks, Hon. Fatuma Zainab emphasized the Committee’s devotion to addressing the misuse of public funds.
She stated, “It’s imperative that Government entities adhere to strict accountability measures to ensure that every shilling spent serves the needs and aspirations of the people of Kenya. This Committee will table reports before the House with clear recommendations designed to put an end to misuse of public funds. We urge organization leaders to diligently adhere to laws and regulations in fulfilling the organization’s mandate and serving Kenyans.”
