Stop The Delayed Financing Of Counties – COG Finance Chair
The directive by the National Treasury that release of funds to devolved units will be pegged on their rates of absorption is illegal.
This was said by Kakamega Governor and Chairperson of the Finance and Economic Affairs Committe at the Council of Governors (CoG) Fernandes Barasa during a memorial service of Mzee Tito Wajakoya the late father to Roots Party Leader Prof. George Wajackoyah in Matungu Sub-County.
Some Counties, the Governor stated, are yet to receive funds for the months of October, November and December, a factor that has hindered delivery of services to residents.
Governor Barasa observed that National Government Ministries and Agencies are on the other hand receiving their share on time yet both levels of Government are serving the same people. He called on the Treasury to respect Counties.
The National Treasury is constitutionally supposed to release Counties’ equitable share on a monthly basis.
