Students from Uasin Gishu County From Scholarship program to Study Abroad
Students from Uasin Gishu County are set to benefit from a scholarship program to study abroad in a program to be launched by governor Jonathan Chelilim Bii next year.
While addressing congregants at AIC Koilel in Eldoret, the county chief promised to facilitate their study abroad through his administration.
“Most of the students will start traveling by May next year because the Canadian intake starts in January, May, and September. There are a few who have already traveled but we need to sit down and strategize for more to follow suit.” noted governor Bii.
With a similar program to Finland having raised eyebrows about its authenticity in the previous regime, the governor promised to have a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the relevant parents and guardians before kick-starting the program to ensure its effectiveness.
The governor promised to act as an intermediary between the schools and interested parties by fastening Visa processing procedures.
“Let me be clear with this our program, we will have an MoU between parents and the county government, where the county government will look for schools on behalf of students and act as a guarantor on their behalf on matters related to the bank statement and with the government’s hand it will be easier to process Visas,” added Governor Bii.
Highlighting the structured fee payment among other benefits, governor Chelilim alias Koti Moja promised the scholars that they will benefit from part-time paid jobs that will pay up to a maximum of 40 hours per week.
“We will talk to those colleges our students will be joining to agree on a structured fee payment procedure where they accept up to 40% upfront. We will talk to the schools to allow the students to work up to 40 hours per week where they will be paid an average of 20 dollars per hour thus sustaining them financially. So every family should have at least a member joining this program.” said the county head.
