Dinah Chepkemoi, a teacher from Eldoret, is now walking pain-free after undergoing a successful knee replacement surgery at Tophill Hospital, following years of debilitating knee pain that started in 2012.

Chepkemoi’s journey with knee pain began when she injured her knee while lifting a 20-liter container of water. Although initial tests at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital indicated no major issue, the pain persisted and gradually worsened over the years. By 2014, she found herself unable to walk properly, and the pain limited her daily activities, contributing to significant weight gain.

In 2016, after seeking treatment at Kapsabet Hospital and receiving limited relief, Chepkemoi’s situation took a turn when she was referred to St. Luke’s Orthopedic Hospital. An MRI revealed severe damage to both knees, and the doctors recommended a total knee replacement.

“After discussing my options, I decided to seek treatment at Tophill Hospital, where I was told I needed a series of tests before the surgery could be scheduled. The wait was long, but I was determined to end the pain,” Chepkemoi said.

After a series of tests and months of waiting, Chepkemoi was given the go-ahead for surgery. On the day of her procedure, she was admitted to Tophill Hospital, where she was attended by a compassionate medical team. Doctors Martimi and Rono, both experienced orthopedic surgeons, explained the procedure in detail, offering Chepkemoi the choice between being unconscious or awake during the surgery. She chose to remain awake and observe the process.

“The surgery was smooth, and I was amazed that I didn’t feel any pain at all during the procedure. The doctors were very supportive and made me feel comfortable throughout the process,” Chepkemoi shared.

The procedure was a success, and Chepkemoi began her rehabilitation immediately. Within just three days, she was able to walk again and was discharged from the hospital.

“I am incredibly grateful to the team at Tophill Hospital. They took such good care of me, and I am now able to live without the constant pain I had been suffering from for years,” she said.

Chepkemoi now encourages others who are living with similar pain to consider knee replacement surgery. “It has truly changed my life. I’ve even helped an 80-year-old woman who underwent the same surgery and is now doing well,” she added.

Thanks to the dedication of the healthcare professionals at Tophill Hospital, Dinah Chepkemoi is now able to live a full, pain-free life and is encouraging others not to give up on seeking solutions to chronic pain.
