Tennis Kenya to host the Billie Jean King Cup Africa Group III

Team Kenya targets promotion as Billie Jean Cup returns.

Top players from Kenya, Botswana, Burundi, Ghana, Mauritius, Morocco, Namibia, Nigeria, Seychelles, Tunisia, Uganda, and Zimbabwe will compete at this year’s edition, where the winner will get promoted to Europe /Africa Group II.

Roselina Asumwa, a tennis player will be keen to put Kenya on the map in the biggest women’s tennis event.

“I am happy that we are hosting the tournament here at home and am hoping this would work in our favour. It is a good thing to play in front of our home fans,” Asumwa said.

Tennis Kenya focuses on teamwork that makes the dream work.
Angela Okutuyi says that their main goal is to qualify.

“I just want to qualify. That is the main goal, and as an individual, I want to put a score on the board for my team in the singles. And if I play in the doubles we want a clean sheet to win but our main goal is to qualify”, concluded Okutuyi.

Tennis Kenya urged its fans to attend the event, which will be held at Nairobi Club from June 12th to 17th. Tickets are affordable at only Ksh 200.

By bringing together some of the best female tennis players from around Africa, the Billie Jean Cup is shining a spotlight on the talent and skill of women athletes.

In January this year, team Kenya Girls team won gold during the zone Championship in Burundi and they were off to the Africa Junior team Championship for under 14 in Cairo Egypt.

In 1995, Kenya hosted the Billie Jean King Cup which was called Fed Cup.
