The Academia Give Endorsement For the Conferment of Eldoret as a City

Moi University, University of Eldoret, Mount Kenya University, University of Nairobi, Eldoret Polytechnic,Rift Valley Technical Training Institute (RVTTI) , Central Primary, Sosiani Secondary school are among the academia centres that fully endorsed the conferment of Municipality of Eldoret to city status today.

Ad-hoc Chair Mr. Willy Kenei at the public participation where the academia presented their views urged the presenters to give all their input to the process because every opinion would count to ensure that Eldoret gets to be the city that will serve its people effectively and efficiently.

Moi University representative Prof Paul Omondi, noted that the University currently has 3 campuses within the Municipality and is ready to carry out research to improve city economic activities, increase international conferences and more research on sustainable cities. He praised Eldoret as a place where many Kenyans have moved in on job basis; but ended up making Eldoret their retirement home because of the cohesiveness , good climate and secure accommodation.

University of Eldoret representative Mr. Samson Odhiambo, while endorsing the city status to Municipality of Eldoret, said that the University had undertaken some research on sprouting of the population through a technology of remote sensing lab that was used to show how the centres in Eldoret are changing overtime. He said that such labs would be used to monitor population growth and needs as the city expands.

Mt. Kenya University representative Mr. Paul Cheboi, appreciated that Eldoret was playing host to many other private universities because of its vibrancy and the youthful population therein hence getting a city status for Eldoret meant more collaboration with the City dwellers for the prosperity of the residents.

Central Primary representative Mr. John Avisa, expounded on the role of the pre primary school, Child care opportunities in cities and policies that can be put in place to improve on safety of children within the city.

RVTTI Dean of students Mr. Stephen kemboi, said that elevation of Eldoret to a city would open up opportunities for young people in the technical sector who would explore links with the Jua Kali sector to ensure economic growth in the city.


In unison, all the academia presenters agreed that Eldoret was ripe to be the *CITY OF TOMORROW.*
