The family of Sylvester Biwott from Tuiyobei Village, Kiplok Sub-location, Nandi Central Sub-County are crying for justice after unknown people torched down their store and vehicle.
Speaking to the press Gertrude Jepkoech said it’s now six months since the first incident took place nothing has been done despite reporting to Kilibwoni police station.

“The first incident took place in November 2021 when our vehicle was torched in the wee hours of the night where we heard a loud noise like a gunshot, we walk up and found that our vehicle was burning. We tried to put off the fire but in vain,” said Jepkoech while speaking to the press.
She said they reported the matter to Kilibwoni Police station but nothing was done.

She said the torched vehicle cost them Sh 600,000.

They are now living in fear not knowing what to do even going out at night is hard since thye don’t know what might happen.
“After the incident took place we reported the matter to Kilibwoni police station where the OCS Samwel Mukena promised to help us but to our surprise, he did not come to the crime scene despite us writing. It’s sad that nothing has happened six months down the down and we are now living in fear not knowing what to do,” she said.
Jopkoech said another incident where their store was burnt to ashes almost the same time at night.

“It was around 2am when we heard a loud noise when we went out we saw a bright light moving closer we saw our store burning I went and called my neighbors to help me put off the fire but in vain it wasn’t burned to ashes,” she said.
She noted that again they reported the matter to the samepo9lice station but just like the first incident nothing was done.

“It is sad that nothing was done despite us reporting the matter the police did not even bother to come at the scene of the crime and thye only came one day ago after we reported the matter to the DCIO.So far no one has been arrested on the same.
They called for the transfer of the OCS Samwel Mukena with immediate effect since he is bringing more harm to residents than good.

“The officer is sleeping on the job how can a cases stay for six months without action and even visiting the crime scene, as a family we want justice and the officer should not only be transferred but shown the door since we are suffering because of his laxity,” he said.

“We are afraid since last year when our vehicle was burnt and this year our store, we don’t know what next. We have reported both cases since last year and nothing has been done. As children as we go we fear what will happen to our parents, we urge the government to help us,” said Kipchirchir Brian Singoei one of the sons.

Sylvester Biwot brother says “We haven’t seen the seriousness of the government since they have done nothing. We urge the government to arrest those involved for our family to have peace since the government has all the machinery. We are not safe including our children we condemn the incident with the strongest terms possible,”.

John Kiprugut neighbor said as a community thye are living in fear calling upon the Inspector general to act with immediate effect.

Human Rights Activist from Human Against Torture Kimutai Kirui said it’s so sad for a family to lose a vehicle and store yet the police are doing nothing concerning it.

“We are now calling for the total overhaul of the Kilibwoni police station, how can police take six months before starting investigations, yet they are supposed to be at the scene of the crime immediately to get the evidence, the evidence has now been destroyed, this is unprofessional and ill-intended,” said Kirui while speaking to the press.

“We are calling upon the police commander of Nandi County
that the Kilibwoni OCS is unfit to hold office and should be sacked with immediate effect since this is a threat to life and should be taken seriously, since the incident has happened more than once and we believe there is an organized gang,” he added.

He reiterated that the culprits
are known and because they have known the police are not willing to help the family

“People have fear and this gang is paid and we never know there might be connected even to the police. Why has the OCS not informed the OCPD about the issues? We are calling upon the commander to ensure that the OCS is sent home since his work is to protect the lives of residents but instead just arresting those involved in illegal liquor since they are known,” he said.
Doris Chemos.

OCPD Nandi Central said she had not received information on the same but she will investigate the matter herself

“I have just received the report of arson, it’s my first time hearing this story, and let me assure you that I am moving to the ground and I am starting my own investigations and immediately we complete we will take action against those involved,” she said.

“I am moving with DCIO to the ground, I am telling the complainant to be patient because we had not received the information but actions will be taken against those people,” she added.
