The Famous “MANGULA” Area To Be Named CHEMOROROCH Recreational Facility
Uasin Gishu Governor H.E Jonathan Bii has thrown his weight behind the proposal by a section of elected leaders and residents to change the name of a section of River Sosiani that was initially used as a hideout for a criminal gang in Eldoret town from the famous “Mangula” to Chemororoch after the completion of a planned rehabilitation and clean up exercise that will be done by the devolved unit and other environmental stakeholders.
For more than one decade the notorious Mangula has been popular with rampant cases of muggings, murders and other criminal activities executed by criminals who were pretending to be street families and hiding on the shows of river Sosiasi. Recently Mangula was in the headlines once again for the wrong reason after a group of armed young people believed to be operating from the place caused mayhem attacking and stealing goods from traders and besides, destroying
vehicles.
Speaking during a tour of Mangula area which has now been secured by the County government following a major operation to get rid of the deadly gang believed to be more than 200 men linked to the criminal
activities, Governor Bii assured genuine traders and residents that his administration will ensure the river and surrounding environment is cleaned up and made safe for the public and also for tourism purposes.
Governor Bii added that the area will be turned into a recreational facility and given a new name; Chemororoch which he said is more attractive not only to tourists and locals but also to investors as the town gears to become a city.
The leaders who accompanied the governor pledged to support the clean-up exercise of the river and rehabilitation program to make it a landmark success. They pointed out that the exercise will begin at Kipkorgot, Sugunanga all the way down to Leseru in order to have
beautiful scenery and nature trails that can be used for cross country along river Sosiani.
They further stated that Eldoret town has attained 90 percent qualification to be confirmed into a city from the Municipality. The leaders welcomed investors to come to Eldoret praising it for its best climate in the region.
Also in the Governor’s entourage included CECMs Martha Cheruto( Trade, Industrialization, Corporative and Tourism), Lucy Ng’endo(Youths Affairs, Sports, ICT and Innovation)Dr. Abraham Serem(Water and Environment) and the Chairman of Eldoret Municipality board Julius Kitur among others.
