Kesses Member of Parliament Julius Ruto now says the government should exhaust buying the available Maize locally before thinking of any importations.

Speaking to the press the Kesses legislator said the 42 hours ultimatum given by CS Moses Kuria for farmers to sell their produce is uncalled for and ill-intended.

“Giving an ultimatum of 72 hours for farmers to sell their maize since it will bring more losses to farmers and will give brokers leverage to steal from farmers and buy at loses. It’s not possible since most o them have not harvested while others are drying their produce,” said the Kesses legislator.

This comes after Trade CS Moses Kuria gave farmers 72 hours ultimatum to release hoarded maize n their storage.
“This is serious psychological torture to farmers and it’s my wish to as CS Kuria to be considerate since he holds a serious docket in government where the policy direction is provided that is always Kenya for Kenyans.
The policy of importation in my own understanding a government is trying to secure a challenge in terms of starvation and lack of sufficient supply of food in the future” said Ruto.

He says the importation of GMO maize has a serious obligation to farmers who have sacrificed till the land, put incentives in the farm knowing that it’s the only economic activity that is going to change their lives live and in many cases, farmers from the region don’t know other business rather than farming.

“ I urge CS Kuria and the government in which we voted for this government knowing the aspect and agenda and manifesto of bottom-up is where farmers are.
