Trans Nzoia County Government Partners with National Housing Corporation to Provide Affordable Housing
The county government of Trans Nzoia has forged a partnership with the National Housing Corporation (NHC) to address the pressing need for quality affordable housing.
The collaboration, sealed in a pact signed Today at County Hall by Governor George Natembeya and NHC Managing Director David Mathu, aims to develop five-storey houses within the Kitale Municipality.
With the rising influx of individuals migrating from rural areas to urban centers, the devolved unit will contribute land for the housing project, while the housing corporation will provide the necessary funds for construction.
Governor Natembeya expressed the county’s determination to tackle the housing challenge by offering modern houses at an affordable cost to meet the growing demand.
He stated, “We are determined to offer a solution to the housing challenge by coming up with modern houses at an affordable cost to meet the growing demand.”
Mr. Mathu highlighted that the agreement came to fruition after the county government committed to settling outstanding debts inherited from the defunct local authority.
“We have transferred houses that were under our management since we were being owed by the defunct Kitale Municipal Council. Trans Nzoia is among the first counties that will benefit from this phase,” he explained.
The National Housing Corporation (NHC) operates as a statutory body, established by an Act of Parliament Cap. 117, with the primary objective of implementing the government’s housing policies and programs.
Through various schemes such as Tenant Purchase, Outright Sale, Rural and Peri-Urban Housing Loans, and Rental Housing, the corporation has been instrumental in assisting Wananchi (citizens) and local authorities in constructing decent and affordable houses.
This partnership between the Trans Nzoia County Government and the National Housing Corporation represents a significant step toward providing affordable housing solutions to meet the needs of the population in Kitale Municipality.
