Trans Nzoia governor Patrick Urges Residents to Conduct Early Cancer Screening
Trans Nzoia governor Patrick Khaemba has rallied residents to conduct early cancer screening in order to have the capability to contain the disease at its initial stages through early treatment.
Governor Khaemba who spoke during the burial of Trade, commerce and industry chief officer Emily Muhonja Cheptabut at Statunga in Cherangány constituency said managing the disease at an advanced stage is challenging.
“Most people realize that they have cancer when it is at stage 3 which cannot be contained. This is why we urge our people to conduct screening exercises in time to avert further spread,” he said.
He urged residents to develop a culture of conducting medical checkups which is critical in curative healthcare since it enables patients to start early treatment for most of the terminal diseases.
“Sometimes the body may feel like it’s okay but you might be having an underlying medical condition that should be addressed in time. Just visit any nearest medical facility for assistance,” said the governor.
The governor defended a bid by his government to set up a teaching and referral hospital saying it will go a long way in offer specialised treatment for such ailments at an affordable rate to residents.
“Once completed, this hospital will be instrumental in offering better healthcare to save our people who have been spending a lot in search of such medication in Eldoret and beyond,” said the county boss.
He dismissed those who have been peddling lies concerning the setting up of the ultra-modern facility saying they are being unfair to residents who are expected to largely benefit from its completion.
“The referral hospital will be one of its kind since it will be the third teaching and referral hospital in the country. Ignore the rumour mongers who want to politicise everything,” said Governor Khaemba.
The governor promised to have a forum with children of the deceased with a view to supporting them financially in their endeavours be it education or other areas for those who completed their studies.
