Transparency International Kenya has organized an MCA debate in Uasin Gishu County which focuses on election accountability focusing on leadership and integrity ahead of the general election.

According to Alex Yator from transparency International, the debate is meant to vet various aspirants for the Member of County Assembly (MCA) positions drawn from the six Sub-Counties in Uasin Gishu County.

The two-hour debate allows electorates from various Wards to interact by asking questions to their leaders.

“As Transparency International what do we want? We want a worthy leader. We are not voters here; in our organization, we have a clause that requires us to be impartial. We do not favor any side as we are neutral. This platform is meant for you to weigh your candidates and see who is best to lead you regardless of the party because the party doesn’t matter but the agenda and policies they have for you is what matters.” Said Alex Yator, Transparency International Kenya Representative.

The questions that were asked included those on integrity where they agreed to uphold and respect it in case they are elected and ensure that there is transparency.

“At transparency international Kenya we have been working towards election accountability with a huge focus on leadership and integrity. That is why we are here where we were conducting a social vetting of the MCA candidates,” he said.

The aspirants of the Member of County Assembly candidates who participated in the debate from various sub-counties agreed to maintain peace, support for whoever emerges the winner, and need for transparency and accountability come the 9th August elections.

The MCA debate has so far been conducted in Kesses, Soy, Ainabkoi, and Kapseret Sub counties, Uasin County.

“We at transparency international Kenya are very happy with the residents Kapsoya in that they have given whoever wins a timeline of two years, if they don’t achieve what they have promised they will be recalling their MCA,” said Kirwa MCA Kapsoya Ward.

TI usually organizes such debates meant to put MCAS to the task.
