Transport and Hospitality Sector Present Views on Eldoret Elevation to City Status
The transformation of a Municipality to city status is a dream of many residents and stakeholders in Uasin Gishu. This is evident from the turn out from the public in giving views, recommendations and information that will enhance the future decisions of the city they look forward to.
Today Chair Ad-hoc Committee Mr. Willy Kenei together with his Vice Chair Mr. Geoffrey Kirui hosted the transport sector majorly attended by matatu sacco owners plying Eldoret- Nairobi, Eldoret- Kisumu, Eldoret Western Region , Eldoret- Nakuru and Saccos plying the borders of Uasin Gishu and beyond.
Kevin Ochoki of Ochoki tours gave recommendation for enhancing tourism sector in Uasin Gishu, demonstrating from his company’s success in Uasin Gishu.
He mentioned some areas of focus including, Cultural tourism, sports tourism, medical tourism and MICE tourism as areas to increase revenue for the city dwellers especially with the presence of iconic international marathoners like Eliud Kipchoge hence establishing regular themed marathons that would attract people to tour Eldoret.
Matatu Sacco owners recommended for increment of parking space, automation and integration of all vehicle operators from taxi, matatus, motorbikes and wasili cabs and expansion of roads within the CBD.
