Triple World Record Holder Faith Kipyegon Wins Another Award
Faith Kipyegon has won the LG/SJAK Sports Personality Award for the month of July making her the first sports personality to win the award in successive months.
The award comes after the 29 year old broke another record in Monaco to become the Women’s Mile World Record holder on top of the two she held earlier in the 5000 meters and 1500 meters races.
She tipped Ferdinand Omanyala, the 100 meters Africa record holder, and Jackline Chepkoech, former 3,000m steeplechase under 20 world champion to the July award.
Speaking during the awarding ceremony, Kipyegon said that she is focused on the upcoming races and intends to defend her titles.
“The last two months have been great for me after breaking three world records. I’m now focusing on upcoming championships where I have to compete in two events and I will be doing my best to ensure I defend my title in the 1,500m race and also win the 5,000m race,” said the triple record holder.
She also said she was happy to receive the award and didn’t expect it despite jokingly claiming that she would come back for another award this month.
“I’m glad to receive another award today, something that I did not expect. I just joked last month when I was rewarded that the team might also come back here to reward me and it has really happened today and I’m so happy,” she added.
LG’s Public Relations and Digital Manager Glenda Achieng commended Kipyegon for her efforts and sailing the country’s flag high.
“Kipyegon has shown that anything is possible and we are happy to have partnered with SJKA to reward her hard work. We will keep on rewarding talent because they have always put the name of this country on the global map.” She said.
