Uasin Gishu County and Nacada Hold a Peace Walk
The county government of Uasin Gishu County in partnership with the National Authority for the Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse,NACADA, held a peace walk campaign in Eldoret town today.
Speaking at the Huruma Grounds, Turbo member of parliament Janet Sitienei urged residents and the entire nation to promote peace in the forthcoming August polls.
“We have previously heard that Uasin Gishu County has been listed as a hotspot among 5 other counties by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission. Let us all uphold peace during and after voting since our country Kenya is bigger than all of us and we must protect it with all that we have,” said Sitienei while speaking to the press.
Sitienei revealed that the program mainly targeted the youth because they majorly fall victims to politicians who use them because of their availability and vulnerability due to lack of employment.
“Youths play a vital role in the society therefore it aims at creating awareness among them on the benefits of having a peaceful election and also encouraging them to shun politicians who want to use them to cause violence,” she added.
The Turbo MP condemned politicians who take advantage of the youth by buying them illicit brews with the aim of luring them to vote for them in office come August 9th.
She said she fully supports the closure of bars during the voting period.
“It is quite a shame that the people who are supposed to lead us through good morals are the same ones trying to manipulate our youths by buying them alcohol. It is morally unacceptable and I will personally work with NACADA and the police to get to the root of this problem. I also support the idea of closing bars a day before elections,” said Sitienei.
