“We are not against Governor Jonathan Biis Budget, it’s just because of our poor remuneration by SRC, ” said the leader of majority Julius Sang while moving the motion.
“Why should we be called honourable members yet we are paid Peanuts sh 86,000 compared to CEC and CO who earn over Sh 400,000 despite us vetting them, ” said the Minority leader and MCA Langas Francis Muya.
“Our agenda number one is welfare, two welfare , three welfare this should be done by SRC once and for all,” said Jonathan Ngetich Kaptagat Ward MCA.
They said SRC is the enemy of devolution.
“We want better pay and we don’t want to be beggars always bootlicking the Governor.I have more than 11 Harambeee, people want loans and my family is also looking for me with the salaries we get its impossible,” said Bishop Patrick Kimeli, Moisbridge Ward MCA.
“Everything starts and ends with the MCA and residents expect me to deal with all Issues. We need people remuneration not to be called village elders,” he added.
Governor Jonathan Bii’s administration was to table the 2023 budget in Parliament.
Speaker Philip Muigei chaired the session
This comes after Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) proposed sh 10,000 pay for the lawmakers.
However MCAs across the Country turned down the offer and instead threatened to paralyse operations in counties should it not be improved.
