The unity we have observed since the onset of this project is encouraging and we surely believe that this year’s elections will be different as compared to the previous ones,” said Kihara.
Kihara not only addressed the youth but also the entire nation to conduct peaceful elections come the 9th of August.
“The responsibility of ensuring peace prevails does not entirely fall on the youth only. Everyone must take part in this to ensure there will be no loss of lives as well as property. We must join hands for the sake of our future,” added Kihara.
Kihara has assured residents of their security before, during and after the fourthcoming general elections saying everything is in order therefore no cause for alarm.
“I want to assure Uasin Gishu residents that their security is guaranteed and that we are set to provide security before, during and after the general elections which is scheduled for August this year, there should no be any cause of alarm since Uasin Gishu is a peaceful County, ” says the Uasin Gishu County Commissioner.
He further said that leaders seeking for any political seat should sell their manifestos without inciting residents.
“I want to give a stern warning to politicians who instead of selling their manifestos to the electorates they are fond of dividing Kenyans based on their tribal and political affiliations, such people will be arrested and charged since we cannot stay mum while the security of our people is being compromised by self centered individuals.Hate speech will not be tolerated ,” he said.
Uasin Gishu is among the Counties that were badly affected by the 2007 post election violence.
Collins Kemboi, Uasin Gishu county youth leader called upon all the youth in the country to take a firm decision not to be used by politicians to spread incitements among the citizens.
“The youth have opened their eyes this time round. We will not be puppets of the ill-mannered politicians. I urge all of us to bravely speak out and report such cases to the relevant authorities for action to be taken immediately. We are on the frontline to ensure that this vice is eradicated in our country,” said Kemboi.
The two-day program also targets to sensitize the public on the importance of actively taking part in the election process.
