The leadership of the Uasin Gishu County Assembly has committed to coming up with legislation that will help address issues that have been cited as a threat to peaceful coexistence in the county.
The leadership of Uasin Gishu County Assembly was led by Assembly Speaker Phillip Muigei, leader of the majority Julius Sang and Assembly Clerk.
The leaders agreed to help in coming up with legislation to issues that hinder peace after meeting the Uasin Gishu County Eminent Persons Panel.

“We have historical issues surrounding boundaries which have both historical and emerging issues and political issues given that boundary demarcation is influenced by community interest and also political interest and given that Uasin Gishu has different tribes with different interests therefore, there is a need to make sure that the boundary demarcation takes care of interests of all communities,” said Hassan after meeting the County Assembly leadership.
He says Historical issues that happened in the larger Riftvalley continue to eat people up towards elections where communities run away during the electioneering period in fear of things that happen years back.
“The stakeholders felt that it’s time to conclusively address the issue the perception of Uasin
Gishu is a hotspot due to the previous incidences they will require initiatives by the community led by a committee of eminent persons in partnership with other stakeholders eg governor, and the commissioner to look at the issues that cause tension based on previous happenings.
He says the County Assembly of Uasin Gishu has agreed to do legislation to criminalize any issue the community has found illegal
“Political issues that require legislation include inclusion where actors and stakeholders feel that there is a need for a framework that guides how appointments are done to ensure that there is the inclusion of all communities,” he said.
“Politics is all interest and when interest is not taken care of the group feels they have been excluded from government and therefore some of them will require legislation come up with a framework that different groups are appointed in government,” Hassan said.
He says on the distribution of public resources there were concerns that some areas were favored over others.
“As it is now this seems to be determined by those who are in control and that some wards can be left behind compared to others .it will require legislation to ensure that moving forward framework that ensures equal distribution of resources,” he noted.
