Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago together with National Cohesion and Integration Commission Commissioner Dorcas Kedogo led an exercise on the signing of the political decency and peace charter by various aspirants who will be vying for various political seats in the 2022 general election.

Speaking during the event which was also attended by Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Stephen Kihara, Governor Mandago called for political decency among the political class and the general public as this will enhance political integrity and guarantee peace during and after the electoral period by creating accountability for political misbehaviour.

Mandago challenged the aspiring candidates to preach peace, promote democracy and avoid hate speech so as to sustain the conducive business environment and infrastructure built by various stakeholders in the County.

The Governor also took the opportunity to thank the residents for political maturity but cautioned against election blackmail as this will not guarantee a stable democracy countrywide.

Commissioner Kedogo noted that they have put in place structures that will ensure that all stakeholders and even the presidential candidates commit to preach peace and avoid utterances that may jeopardize peace.

On his part Uasin Gishu county commissioner Stephen Kihara urged residents of Uasin Gishu and other stakeholders to remain vigilant and report on any leader who may want to incite communities against each other.

“Let us remain vigilant as we head to the fourthcoming elections by reporting anyone spreading hate messages of inciting residents and we promise we will take stern actions against them, ” he said.
