Uasin Gishu County to Collaborate With Israel in this Areas

Uasin Gishu governor Jonathan Bii held fruitful engagement with the Israel Government through its Ambassador to Kenya Michael Lotem who has been in the County on an official two day visit.

The visit that was the ambassador’s maiden focused on ways the county government could benefit from the Israeli government with Israel being a start up nation in technology and agriculture.

“We are privileged as County of champions to have hosted our friend and brother the Israeli ambassador to Kenya and his entourage for a two day visit. The maiden ambassador’s visit is important to our county. We would like to acknowledge his Excellency for choosing Uasin Gishu as his first destination of choice. The two day visit has had a positive impact to our county.” said Jonathan Bii.

Highlighting the potential that lays within the county, the governor together with the Israeli entourage toured several areas in the county where they noted the potential that lies ahead.

“In our tours to the county facilities and model farms, it became clear that we have a very big potential in sustainability plan and with the entry of Israel, we are destined for greatness.” added the governor.
Some of the issues discussed include Agriculture, Health, housing, water and with Eldoret in the process of being conferred into a city, this formed part of the discussions.

“Some of the collaborative areas with Israel are as follows. We discussed a lot in agriculture, health, housing and water. Eldoret is in the process of being conferred into a city and municipality is at the center in ensuring it becomes the fifth city in the republic of Kenya.” Noted the Chelilim Bii.

The engagement with Eldoret municipality the following areas were agreed mobilization of investors to engage the county projects such as housing, water, solid wastes management, urban roads transport system, traffic lights, sewerage articulation and urban mobility. Possible teaming of Eldoret with Afula City in Israel was also touched on.

“Areas of possible collaboration on best practices were established with Israeli government, they included the following areas, adoption of new technologies on water provision through digitization of the process, exchange program and knowledge transfer to the team, importation of smart meters through standard chartered from Israel, construction of dams through PPPs and opportunity for partnerships for creating new water infrastructure and capacity building of staff and engaging water experts on knowledge sharing and transfer.” said the governor.
On health, the delegation agreed upon various ways to improve the health status in the county with financial support on equipments and other facilities.

“On health, we will engage on PPPs with Elsmed Kenya who will support Uasin Gishu County government with equipment worth 5.3 million dollars with the partnership being conducted in phases.

The first phase being hospital/laboratory innovation in identified health facilities within the county with a lot of emphasis in Uasin Gishu district hospital. The partnership will extend to training on staff, provision of medical equipment, ICT infrastructure, telemedicine and informatics and capacity building.” Retorted Jonathan Bii.
