Uasin Gishu Residents Hit Out at Government over Cost of Living
A section of Uasin Gishu County residents have hit at the Kenya Kwanza government over the ballooning cost of living.
Various commodity prices have been going up with petroleum prices stagnating in the last two months.
This comes barely days after popular comedian Eric Omondi led a group of Kenyans to protest the high cost of living.
“We are here to protest too much hunger in this country Kenya. Commodity prices have gone up, maize floor, sugar prices and now electricity prices are set to go up. We demand for these prices to go down. We can’t persevere past this. We call on William Ruto’s government if they are listening to us because these are Kenyans here who are suffering.” Said Kephas Ochieng.
The residents called on the government to fulfill the promises made to public during campaign period or vacate office and let those who are up to task to do it, calling upon opposition leader Raila Odinga to follow constitutional means to persuade government to restore economic order.
“We are speaking about the country’s current situation, Kenyans were promised a lot of things by the government of the day but now prices are going up. Electricity has gone up and things are becoming tougher for the common mwananchi” Said Evans Odhiambo, the Organizin Secretary for ODM Party in Rift Valley.
The residents also asked opposition leader to hold a meeting in Uasin Gishu to address the deteroriating state of affairs in the country.
“We are very displeased with how things in this country are being run. We thank Raila Odinga for following the law. It is not against the law to picket as the constitution calls for this.” Said Samuel Kipchumba, chairman ODM North Rift region.
