Union Officials Want Former UOE Vice Chancellor to Vacate Office
The Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) at The Eldoret University joined Kenya University Staff Union (KUSU) in a peaceful demonstration demanding former Vice-chancellor Prof Teresa Akenga to vacate office.
This is to allow for the assumption of office by the New Acting Vice-chancellor.
Led by Dr. Nyaberi Mogaka the Joint chair of UASU and KUSU Eldoret University chapter, the leaders have castigated the former Vice Chancellor for holding on to office despite the lapse of her tenure.
This is due to the reluctance of former Vice Chancellor Teresa Akenga to withdraw from Office, even after being terminated by the university’s Council.
“Former UOE Vice-chancellor Prof. Akenga should leave the office as soon as possible to allow the
new acting VC to take over,” said Mogaka.
Mogaka noted that overstaying of the former Vice Chancellor in the office will be an opportunity for cartels to chip in and alter the smooth running of the institution’s administration.
“ As a family, we are giving her seven days to vacate office fa or a smooth transition to take place and ensure the acting Vice Chancellor takes over,” said the chairman,”
He said to avoid the issue of misappropriation of funds and abuse of office, the former VC should leave the office with immediate effect.
Robinson Kibet the secretary KUSU called upon the University’s Chancellor, to look into the issue to facilitate smooth administration in the office.
“I urge our Chancellor, being the president’s representative to ensure Prof. Akenga removes herself from the office. We would not wish to witness a situation where leaders overstay in office until they are forced out by the people, we will not allow “mugabeism” to take place in this noble Institution,” said Kibet.
He also noted that although the outgoing administration, led by Prof. Akenga had done her part, the new Chancellor in office will facilitate an enormous transition.
“We will discharge our duties diligently to our clients and ensure a seamless transition that will tackle the institution’s challenges,” Kibet said.
Prof Akenga was appointed in June 2013 to serve in the Institution as the Varsity’s Vice Chancellor.
