Unknown Individuals Scathe Kabianga University Hostels
The Kabianga University has encountered a great loss of property following a fire outbreak in one of their biggest hostels.
This has been confirmed by Kenya Universities Students Organization (KUSO) on their Official Facebook page.
The fire was reported to have started on Wednesday 19th of April 2023 at around 8.45 p.m. the same date when the first and third years were supposed to resume back after the institution was temporarily closed for two weeks due to a strike over the delay of students’ HELB Loans.
Fire brigade from the County Government of Kericho and James Finlay’s Tea Company rushed to the scene and helped in containing the fire.
The main cause of the fire is yet to be identified. Rift Valley Police Boss Tom Odera said experts will investigate the fire.
“We have not recorded any casualty so far but the property of unknown value was destroyed,” said Odera.
He added the experts will include officials from Kenya Power, county officials, and police.
