Vera Beauty College, Eldoret Media Hub and Yunitok Cleans Eldoret Market
Vera Beauty College in partnership with Yunitok led a cleaning exercise in Eldoret Wholesale market.
The exercise brought together the Kenya Scouts Association, I Choose Life, Environmentalists, Eldoret Media Hub, and students of Vera Beauty College.
Speaking during the event, Elizabeth Nyaberi a lawyer and Kenya Scouts Association Yunitok coordinator said Yunitok is a platform that equips youths with additional skills that will add advantage to their Curriculum Vitae (CV).
“Today we had a cleaning exercise in Eldoret town our aim is to ensure that youths are always busy and do constructive things,” she said
She further urged youths across the country to join the platform and enjoy the benefits that come with it.
This was a way of reaching out to many youths to join programs that equips them with skills to cope with life rather than sticking to drug and alcohol abuse.
“This is a platform that is designed to equip young people with leadership skills, community work, and other skills. It also aims at engaging the youths to change their perspectives on different issues in society. We, therefore, call upon young people across the country to join Yunitok because they will be able to exchange views with other youths as they share common interests.” stated Elizabeth.
The organization uses cleaning and sporting programs as the major events to bring together youths as this is the main way of mobilizing youths.
This comes as many youths in the country continue to languish in drug abuse which has derailed their progress in life.
Section of parents lauded the program stating that many youths have lost hope in life and therefore have sought comfort in alcohol and drug abuse which further worsens their situation.
“Most of our children are idlers making them frequently use drugs and alcohol. It, therefore, encourages us as parents when we see such programs because our children will be engaged positively making them be focused on life.”Said Joseph Tanui one of the parents.
The scout’s team pledged to give their support to the Yunitok in mentoring the young people. They promised to continue participating in more community work to reach out to more youths across the country.
Yunitok also serves as a means through which young people bring out issues affecting them such as depression openly because they share common interests. This, therefore, becomes easy to manage youth problems within the country.
UNICEF launched Yunitok in Kenya on 25th February 2022 with the aim of addressing the issues youths are facing in their daily lives.
