VOCATIONAL TRAINING CENTRES NURTURING TALENT THROUGH SPORTS
Vihiga Governor Dr Wilber Ottichilo today officially opened the Vihiga County inter Vocational Training Centres sports 2022 at the Kaimosi Friends University College (KAFUCO) grounds.
In his address, the Governor reiterated his Government’s commitment to improving infrastructure in the Vocational Training Centres (VTCs).
While appreciating that Vocational Training is a fully devolved function, the County boss said that his Government has realized several milestones in VTCs since 2018 some of which include equipping VTCs with modern tools and equipment and employment of trainers to bridge the gap in the trainee trainer ratio.
The Governor also said his administration rolled out County Capitation to VTC trainees where tuition fees for training is fully paid by the County Government; an initiative that has seen increase enrolment from 2700 in 2018 to 5700 trainees in 2022.
In the next phase of his administration, the Governor said his administration will support VTC graduates by helping them secure internship opportunities within and without Government so that they can put acquired skills to application.
The Vihiga County Vocational Training Centres sports resumed this year after a two year hiatus occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic. The sports tourney aims at exposing talent in different sports disciplines that include Soccer (for both boys and girls), Volleyball, Handball and Netball
as well as creating a networking platform for trainees from different institutions.
The two day event ends on Friday 1st July 2022 with winners in various categories being awarded.
Present at the event were Governor’s running mate Wilberforce Kitiezo, Chief Officer TVET Abisai Amatalo, Director TVET Charles Avedi, County Solicitor James Mukabi, Sub County administrators Kennedy Okila(Hamisi), Alex Kevogo (Sabatia), Chairman of the Organizing Committee Zadock Munala, Sub County TVET Officers, Representatives from the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) among other County officers.
