We Shall Build 200 Housing Units Per Constituency, Says PS Housings

Housing Principal Secretary, Charles Hinga told the Senate committee on Roads, Transportation and Housing chaired by Kiambu Senator Karungo Thangwa, that the Kenyan Government is committed to build 200 housing units per constituency in the 2023/24 financial year beginning June, 2023.

The Principal Secretary said that every urban area has a slum, he further told the committee that according to 2019 census, we have 1411 informal settlements in Kenya.

“We have 6.5 millions flying toilets in Kenyan slums hence the need for decent and affordable housing.” said Cabinet Secretary for Lands and Housing, Zachariah Mwangi Njeru.

The ministry officials expressed confidence that the Government has taken away the Value Added Tax on Affordable Housing Programme, all levies and fees.

“We have reduced the cost of a three-bedroomed from the commercial price of Ksh 11 million to Ksh. 3 million.” Said Principal Secretary of Housing, Charles Hinga.

In the Affordable Housing Programme, a one bedroom house will be sold at Ksh. 1 million, two bedrooms at Ksh. 2 million and three bedrooms at Ksh. 3 millions. The tenants will pay the loans for 30 years at the monthly installment of Ksh. 5000 for I bedroom, Ksh. 10,000/- for 2 bedrooms units and 3 bedrooms units will go for Ksh. 15,000 per month.
