WOMEN URGED TO BE SELF-RELIANT
The CECM for Health and Sanitation Ruth Koech has urged women in Nandi County to be self-reliant.
She was speaking separately at Mwein and Kaptel SDA Church during the closure of a two weeks Women Dorcas camp presided over by Pastor Kogei, the SDA President who delivered a message on being a light in the community and caring for the spiritual mental and physical well being.
The Kaptel camp was presided over by Pastor Mugo who delivered a message on self-reliance.
The County Executive Committee Member who represented the Governor said most women were facing gender-based violence (GBV) because they depend on men to take care of their basic needs.
“Women should work in groups to secure loans for their small-scale businesses,” she said.
She also said the government is trying its best to empower women so that they can hold decision-making positions.
She noted that the County Government of Nandi through the leadership of Governor Stephen Sang has over the years supported women across the county.
Ruth said that the County Government has over time endeavoured to encourage and promote women to pursue various leadership positions in public service.
“We are committed to support women in our service to grow and achieve their potential since we recognize their God given gifts and skills.” Ruth noted.
She thanked the church for their efforts in Church-based health promotion (CBHP) interventions that reaches broad populations and have great potential for reducing health disparities.
