A bruising battle for a show of talent is expected in Uasin Gishu when the Governor’s (Cup) Volleyball Tournament serves off in less than a fortnight.

The showpiece promises a big showdown as the County that formerly basked in the adoration of producing the best volleyballers, fights to reclaim its adulation.

In a status report, about 130 teams have registered so far, with Simat-Kapseret Ward having enrolled 14 teams and raring to rumble for big prizes and glory. The others have an average of five teams. The deadline for registration is February 17.

Unless the form book is upset, Simat/Kapseret Ward has been billed to obliterate the court at the tourney. The area is home to some of the best volleyballers, including the international and current coach of the national women’s volleyball team Malkia Strikers, Paul Bittok.

On Sunday, several teams braved the solar at Huruma Grounds as they sharpened their mettle ahead of the big serve-off.

At the meeting, Chief Officer for Sports (Acting) Peter Ruto, said the number of registered teams shows how tough the competition will be.
