Youths Demonstrate In Eldoret Demand Resignation Of CS Chelugui
Over 2,000 Youth Thursday engaged police officers in a cat-and-mouse chase within the Eldoret Central Business District after they were denied a demonstration permit.
The irate youth are demanding the immediate resignation of Cabinet Secretary Cooperative and SMEs Simon Chelugui after his involvement in the launch of the First Choice Recruitment and Consultancy an agency they claim has defrauded them Millions of Shillings by promising them jobs abroad.
“We have every reason to believe CS Chelugui , Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago, Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii and Businessman David Lagat are aware of this scam that has left over 4,000 youth in abject poverty. The leaders were present during the launch of the Organization in Eldoret , we paid each 40,000 shillings while others paid in cash up to 400,000 shillings to Judy Chepchichir the First Choice recruitment consultancy manager” said Cheruiyot Chegon.
The Youth who for the last three days informed the Eldoret Central Police station commanding officer of their intent to hold peaceful demonstrations, claims security officers may have been compromised to deny them their right to picket.
“We informed the police of our demonstrations as required by the Law but it’s unfortunate, this morning we have a contingent of anti-riot police officers in one lorry and three other vehicles just to deny us an assembly as we seek justice, we are told the police received calls from unknown individuals from the state house Nairobi, we urge our President the Chief Hustler to intervene and ensure justice is served to us expeditiously, “Said Pauline Ambaka,
The Youth later held a peaceful demonstration at Kapsoya Estate on the Outskirts of Eldoret town and demanded a refund of their money from the First Choice recruitment agency that has since closed its City plaza offices.
“Many of us sold our properties, and land all in the hopes of securing greener pastures so that we can support our families but we have been left hopeless, we have vowed to continue demonstrating with the Eldoret streets until such a time when we shall be fully refunded our monies. “Our hustler president comes out clearly and helps us for us to get back our money,” said Kelvin Koech another job seeker.
Kelvin Koech said “We are going to demonstrate until justice is served. We have seen her in the media cheating people we have gone to Qatar that is a total lie,”
Kimutai Kirui of the Center against Torture has castigated police officers for denying the youth the right to demonstrate after notifying the police as is required by article 37 of the Constitution of Kenya,
“We demand Cabinet Minister Simon Chelugui resign forthwith, to distance himself or address this matter as the Minister in charge of Cooperative and SMEs the youth have no confidence in Him as he has adversely been mentioned in this scam after he launched the program in Eldoret on 21st May 2021 among other invited politicians,” Said Kimutai.
“We don’t want that man in the ministry and he should come out clear and tell us what is going on the syndicate, we have pictures to show that he was on the launch, therefore, he knows what happened. We are appealing to The President to intervene as many of the youth have been left in abject poverty.
Judy Chepchirchir of First Choice Recruitment and Consultancy has insisted that her organization is legitimate.
