The Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya (PSK) Wants the Establishment of a Pharmaceutical Directorate in Governor Otuoma’s Administration

The Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya (PSK) is lobbying for the establishment of a Pharmaceutical Directorate under the administration of Governor Dr. Paul Nyongesa Otuoma to promote the delivery of healthcare services.

The team led by PSK Western Region Chairperson, Dr. George Matimbai said the docket once established will spearhead sustainable policies that promote excellence in the management of pharmaceuticals.

Addressing the press after a consultative meeting with the governor, Dr. Matimbai said the forum discussed at length ways professionals can engage the County Governments of Busia to address unique challenges facing the health sector.

“We have held a very fruitful discussion with the governor and agreed to lend a supporting hand in terms of training of staff on forecasting, planning, and financing. Most important we will also engage pharmacists to deliver on Universal Health Coverage goals,” he said.

He was accompanied by colleague doctors Tom Sindani (Secretary General) Diana Amojong and Mike Watamba.

“We encourage governors in this region to leverage on Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB) by channeling resources together and commission purchase of pharmaceuticals in bulk so that they can have value for money,” said Dr. Sindani.

Dr. Amojong said they are also looking at investment opportunities in the county considering that some of their members are running established distributor chains in other counties.
“We have appealed for the amendment of the County Finance Bill to harmonize fees that may be discouraging potential investors,” she reiterated.
