Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii has put on notice those selling illegal alcohol in the County.

Speaking in Moiben during a graduation ceremony of rehabilitated alcohol and drug users, the Governor challenged the County Alcoholic Control Drinks Board (ADCB) to ensure that illicit alcohol reportedly from a neighboring country is not sold in Uasin Gishu.

“I want to give a stern warning to individuals selling illegal alcohol that their days are numbered and that they should either change their business or face the full force of the law. Our aim is to stop this nonsense once and for all,” said the Uasin Gishu governor.
He said the government will increase raids in the affected areas to ensure the sale of illegal liquor is totally eradicated.
“We will conduct more raids through the use of chiefs, village elders, Nyumba Kumi, and police officers to ensure we reduce the effects of alcohol which has destroyed marriages and the life of young youths,” governor Bii said.
Governor Bii alias Koti Moja said youths are the most affected by the vice.
The county boss also announced the formation of a task force to investigate the root cause and ways to curb alcohol and drug abuse in the county through the creation of preventive measures for the reduction of alcohol breweries in Uasin Gishu through Awareness and outreach.
He says Bars and liquor shops risk having their licenses revoked should they continue selling blacklisted alcohol.
“Liquor from the neighboring country has infiltrated the county to the village level, causing alcohol-related deaths, ill-health and turning youth in their prime into a dependent culture. it is disconcerting that the youth, who are supposed to be in the working-age group, are fast drowning in alcoholism and abdicating their roles in society,” he added.
Bii said his administration in collaboration with the National Government Security Agencies will work to rid the society of alcohol from a neighboring country, whose contents are questionable and are reported to cause alcohol-related deaths.
